Died: July 29, 1890 in Auvers-sur-Oise, France
Nationality: Dutch
Medium: Painter
Movement: Post-Impressionism

While Vincent Van Gogh is perhaps most known for the notorious incident of cutting off part of his ear after a parting of friendship with Paul Gauguin, that was not his only legacy. Van Gogh created over 2,000 works of art with the majority of his most known works being created in the last two years of his short life.

Van Gogh's works are perhaps some of the most expensive ever sold in the art world. One of his paintings, "Portrait of Dr. Gachet" was sold for in excess of $82 million. Prints of his paintings "Starry Night" and "Cafe Terrace.. at Night" have ranked among the most popular prints and posters ever sold through our gallery.

Welcome to Artmeister!

Thanks for dropping in today! We hope that Artmeister will become part of your daily routine or at least part of your weekly web tour.

Artmeister is made possible by support from VirtualMuse.com, one of the oldest art galleries on the internet. VirtualMuse.com was originally founded in 1997 with the vision of finding the world's next unknown 'Picasso' or 'Monet'. Unfortunately, the internet was still relatively new and it was difficult for art lovers to see beyond the mediocre photography and low resolution scans of the fantastic works of art enough to actually pull out their checkbooks.

While the owners of VirtualMuse.com still scour small galleries, sidewalk shows, auctions, and openings, they find the internet is a great place to exhibit traditional and well-known art moreso than providing Neo-Picasso with a virtual grand opening. They're still patrons of the arts and collect as they go, but it's still hard to grasp the depth of a brushstroke in an oil on canvas by your neighborhood Renoir.

Kick back, pour yourself a cup o' Joe, and enjoy the world of Artmeister!
